this historic house with a contemporary interior lets you recharge in a little piece of maine

This is a slightly different vacation rental than you’ll find in other parts of coastal Maine. We’re an architect and a founder of a textile company who love the north Atlantic coast and contemporary Nordic design. Built by Horace H. Bracy in 1890, The Bracy House underwent an extensive renovation to accommodate modern lifestyles. Located on almost two wooded acres a quarter mile from the Atlantic Ocean, this vacation rental has a two-bedroom, two-bath unit on the first floor (the downstairs) and another two-bedroom, two-bath unit on the second floor (the upstairs). Plus, it's close to beaches, restaurants, shopping, outdoor and cultural activities. Come stay at The Bracy House and get your relax on.

the floor plan

Contemporary spaces for modern living. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms (one an ensuite), large closets with plenty of storage (so pack that extra swimsuit or snow boots), a cook's kitchen, August smart locks and Nest thermostats create a functional and comfortable space for kicking back. And since we love the outdoors too, the house features a front porch, side patio, and large backyard giving lots of options for making the most of the serene surroundings. Want the whole shebang? Not a problem, the entire house is available for rent.

the location

Need a quick getaway? The Bracy House is just a hop, skip, and a jump from Boston (1 hr 20 min), New York City (4 hr 50 min), or Montreal (5 hr 30 min). We're nestled in the quiet, wooded village of Cape Neddick but within a short drive (or bike ride) of the restaurants, shops, beaches, and attractions of the southern Maine seacoast.

The amenities

The little things make life better. Wi-Fi throughout, high definition LED TV with cable, bed linens and towels, locally made Minka body wash, fully equipped kitchen, central air conditioning, Nest thermostats and smoke detectors, and 24-hour check in via August smart locks are all included.

The design

We're designophiles, we admit it. While we value The Bracy House’s long history, you’ll find the interiors decidedly contemporary. On vacations we’ll be found in Berlin, Copenhagen, Helsinki, or Reykjavik and find that the southern Maine coast reminds us of these places with its natural beauty and urbane amenities. We have filled the house with furniture and objects from the likes of BluDot, Bob's Your Uncle, HAY, Heath Ceramics, Hem, Knoll, Marimekko, Muuto, Paper Collective, and Vitra (just to name a few.) Plus we’ve stashed some of our favorite books including the biographies of Kim Gordon and Yayoi Kusama (rock stars and artists don't live dull lives) along with cookbooks from Magnus Nilsson and Dan Barber should the culinary mood strike. And because you're in Maine, a few survival guides are thrown in for good measure.

'cause we think maine is pretty great

We love Maine and so we've stocked up on local finds including Angela Adams pillows and Tandem coffee from Portland, Portsmouth's White Heron tea, Maine Root blueberry soda, York's own Stonewall Kitchen hot chocolate, plus body and hand wash from Minka in nearby Kennebunkport.
